Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of the Toric implantable contact lens in correcting high myopic astigmatism.
Methods: A 44-year-old woman`s uncorrected visual acuity was 0.08 in the right eye and 0.125 in the left eye. The refractive errors of her eyes were -11.75Dsph. : -5.0Dcyl.axis 3¡Æ in the right eye and -1.0Dsph.: -3.0Dcyl.axis 178¡Æ in the left eye. Her best corrected visual acuity was 0.5 in the right eye and 1.0 in the left eye. Toric implantable contact lenses were implanted in both eyes without any no intra-operative complications.
Results: Six months after surgery, her uncorrected visual acuities were 0.8 in the right eye and 1.0 in the left eye. The refractive errors were -0.5Dsph. : -0.5Dcyl.axis 120¡Æ in the right eye and -0.25Dsph. : -1.5Dcyl.axis 13¡Æ in the left eye. The best corrected visual acuity was 1.0 in the both eyes. In these eyes, there was no cataract or spike of intraocular pressure.
Conclusions: High myopic astigmatism can be corrected with a one-stop operation to implant toric implantable contact lenes.
